Unless it’s a special night, you’re probably picking chicken because who can afford lobster all the time? Actually, you can since the price of lobster has dropped from $6/lb (1995) to $2/lb (2013) but you would never know it from restaurant or grocery store prices. Because they know that if they drop the prices, the experience (and therefore demand) of eating lobster will diminish, which is counter intuitive as you would think the demand would rise as prices fall.

I admit this is a rant so please proceed with caution. We, at TMG are busy – more than busy, which is great but for me it means that I have limited patience for anything that takes me away from doing what I need to do for my clients. Every week we rotate who is responsible for writing this blog and today was NOT my turn, BUT yesterday I picked up my WSJ at the end of my driveway (yes I still like to read a “paper”) and saw a front page headline “Firms Pinch Payments to Supplier” and I went nuts

I recently read a Forbes’ article, “America’s Most Disliked Athletes”, after reading this I came away disillusioned with people we put on pedestals. I am one of those “baby boomers” who continues to shake his head upon hearing of so many “admired” sports heroes who have fallen from grace. Just in the last few years we have been stunned to hear about baseball players using illegal drugs…..Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong. Lance is likely the poster child for our societies fall from basic principles I grew up with, Honesty, Trust, Accountability and Respect.

Yes, January is almost over! There is no better feeling than a fresh start, whether it is starting a new semester, a new job, moving into a new home OR looking at your business through a new lens, it is all good! This is a follow up post from early December where I discussed the dilemma many companies face – they have a “closet” full of stuff (capable people, processes, tools, technology, etc.) but never seem to have anything to “wear”. A few weeks ago I suggested that there is a process to “Shop your Closet” which is methodical and time tested.

I found two great articles yesterday in the Wall Street Journal that caught my attention. One article focused on Airbus’ epiphany to redesign their manufacturing process in “Hit by Delays, Airbus Tries New Way of Building Planes.” This is a must read as it is a classic lesson on how Supply Chain Management is critical to either the success or failure of a global manufacturer.
